International Congress for Campesino Organisations in Guatemala

From 9th-11th October there will be the 4th Latin American campesinos congress taking place in Guatemala. Juan Tiney, from the coordinating committee of the Latin American campesino organisations (CLOC) in Guatemala, sees this congress as an opportunity to discuss issues such as “food security, agricultural reform, the continuing struggle against free trade agreements and the defence of campesino communties natural resources”. Delegates from more than 21 countries will be present in Guatemala, while DR-CAFTA has been signed by the US, many delegates will be raising the prospect of new free trade agreements being reached with Peru, Ecuador and Colombia.
